🥂 Social Reasons to dance

Image
Events & outings: Weddings, parties, or dance socials are much more fun when you can participate. Not wanting to sit on the sidelines: Wanting to be involved instead of watching others enjoy themselves. It’s surprisingly fun: A lot of men discover that once they get past the initial awkwardness, dancing is actually a blast — especially with someone they care about. Music + Movement: Enjoying music in a physical way can be energizing and uplifting. Studies show that dance helps reduce stress, increases levels of the feel-good hormone serotonin, and helps develop new neural connections, especially in regions involved in executive function, long-term memory, and spatial recognition. Come experience it for yourself in a group class or private lesson at Dance Forever: 727-723-3269

"He danced with everybody but he only had 2 steps..."

He loves getting out and getting active on the dancefloor, but why isn't he interested in learning a little more variety? The two steps were basic and repetitive. Why They Might Not Want to Learn More: They Focus on Connection... They see dancing as a way to chat and smile. Complex steps require too much concentration. Pure Fun! They feel happy with what they can do. They do not need to show off or win a contest. Low Stress: Simple steps mean no fear of making mistakes. They can relax and enjoy the night. Inclusivity: A basic step works with any partner. Everyone can join in easily. At Dance Forever we teach interrelated steps so dancers can have more variety without too much concentration.

What do I wear for East Coast Swing dancing?

Image
Our next dance class series leading up to a dance night out will be the East Coast Swing! And on the heels of our Disco Dance Night Out where many dressed for the theme and boosted the enjoyment of the event, we were asked "What do I wear?" East Coast Swing calls for twirly skirts & dresses that showcase the lega actions to the knee. Also popular is a retro look, think 1950's. We will be having some looks on display for our next outing for you to come try on by appointment!

Do I need a partner to practice learning to dance with?

Image
Learning to social dance is a partner activity, but there are many reasons why singles do not need a partner! Learning to dance requires the ability to recognize the feeling of dance elements. For those learning the lead, they have to first learn where their feet go and the focus on weight change as a lead. Then they learn coordination of their arms, so they can lead turns with proper timing and how to keep their partner balanced. Then they learn shaping leads. Next they might become aware of music, or what their partner is doing. For a follower, we often hear "I can follow a strong leader" from people that cannot dance an introductory pattern themselves. That's a big ask from a leader, and limits these followers to only being able to enjoy a dance with high level, very experienced leaders. So we recommend that leaders and followers focus first NOT only on feeling the dance partnership, but learning the elements of dance so well on their own that they can focu...

Self discovery is one of the benefits of dance

Image
Self discovery is one of the benefits of dance. Students in our small group class: - discovered the feeling of moving their body disconnected from a dance partner, and with one...two totally different experiences! - That things can look one way and feel another... surprise 🎶 - Arm styling may feel awkward to start as we are often uncomfortable permitting ourselves to take up the space we need - We love the look of other people who push beyond the comfort zone, they don't appear awkward they look fantastic! - We have to be willing to feel goofy, theatrical, uninhibited.
